Happy New Year! 2012 was my first year living back in the US  after being abroad since 2008. As you can see above, I had a lot of great coffees while reacquainting myself with American roasters and a specialty coffee industry that has developed a lot over the past few years. Two coffees that stood out for me this year were Counter Culture’s La Frontera from Peru, and Kuma Coffee’s Sumatra Tano Batak from Indonesia. I really enjoyed the balanced complexity these coffees had with juicy acidity and spicy, resinous notes.

My favorite coffee experience of 2012 was meeting Man Seeking Coffee and the interesting conversation that ensued at Sweet Leaf LIC, one of my favorite cafes in New York.

What were your favorite coffees or coffee moments of 2012?
